Ennis Area Wildflowers April 1-2, 2017

Went to Ennis last weekend to check out Lake Bardwell and the bluebonnet trails.

Lake Bardwell had large fields of bluebonnets and paintbrush surrounding the lake and  a couple of other fields nearby.  They were at peak and the scenery was very nice.

We then went to see Creechville and Mach Roads.  I photographed a large field of paintbrush and bluebonnets on Creechville last year, but did not stop because parking isn't easy and it was not filled in yet.  There were nice patches of bluebonnets and perhaps this field will be better this coming weekend.

Mach Rd. had some bluebonnets and may also fill in further.  However, I don't expect it to look like the photos I saw on this website from 2012.

We then headed up Union Hill Rd. and did find some longhorns near a field with some bluebonnets and yellow flowers around a pond.  Andrews Rd. had large fields of bluebonnets and nice views of the valley below.  Last year when we drove up Andrews Rd., the bluebonnets were sparse compared to this year.  Some of the fields were pretty thick.  I also found a nice one with bluebonnets and paintbrush.

We finished by going to Sugar Ridge Rd. and found some very nice bluebonnet patches and bluebonnets by a pond. Also found horses when leaving right before turning on 813.

I recommned going soon since some fields were at peak and others will be at peak shortly.  Also, tall grasses may compete with the bluebonnets since we have had some decent rain and I could see that happening already in some spots.  Overall, I felt it was a better year than last year and worth the trip.  Here is a link to some photos:

Thanks Gayle for the report and link to the photos! Very nicely done! You captured some really good scenes with better coverage than I had expected.
