I took the drive down to Single Oak Rd./Church Rd. where there was nothing to shoot. Fewest flowers I've ever seen. Single Oak Rd. had some phlox. Then made my way over to 123 south Seguin via 467 and a couple back roads. There were a couple of nice lots on 467. The nice barn location on 123 and Fox Trotter intercection south of Seguin looked okay but wasn't as nice as last year. It appeared to be a bit early. I then went down to 1681 to the field that was so nice a few years ago. Not a single flower. On to Stockdale, Floresville, down to Poth and 541 to IH-37 where I saw very little except for a nice lot in McCoy near IH-37. IH-37 had some nice stretches of primrose.

On to Pleasanton where there is a nice field on School Drive about 2 miles west of town on the way Poteet. West of Poteet on 476 near the intercection with 2504, there is a massive field of BB but is largely obscured by winter weeds. I saw two or three large fields like that. Mann Rd/476 is coming on nicely and had a large increase in blooms over the past 3 days. The Wheeler Rd. field has increased in size as well and looks nice. 2504 had the largest number of fields and lots with BB, phlox, and groundsel but not really picturesque. The Eichman/Ditto field that looked so nice last year looks like it had a fire over the last year and had very few flowers. I did find some nice large fields of BB and groundsel on Blossom Rd just off 476.

I drove on to Lytle to check Lake St. that usually has a large lot of mixed poppies. It looks too early still although there were some poppies showing. From there I went to Castroville to check their poppies. They are looking nice but appear to be a couple weeks to peak.

Overall, everything is about two weeks behind last year but last year was quite early. We just may be on schedule for a normal year. Everything that was worth seeing may be about a week to peak.

Mike,

Thanks for the report and photos! I'm hoping it is just early, especially given the amount of rain that the areas south of San Antonio have received.
